About

Paula Lampkin was born and raised in Alabama and descends from some of the earliest families in the state. Her great-great-grandfather was commissioned as a Justice of the Peace in 1819. In 1830, Judge Isaac Hanson McElroy served as Senior Presiding Circuit Court Judge of Dallas County. Ms. Lampkin’s great-uncle later served as Senior Presiding Judge of Jefferson County. Judge J. Russell McElroy authored the Alabama Book of Evidence, a foundational legal text used in courtrooms across the state and now known as the Alabama Rules of Evidence.

Her great-great-uncle, Senator John Hollis Bankhead, was a former prosecutor in Lamar County, Alabama, before serving in the United States Congress. Her cousin, William Brockman Bankhead, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, lived above his law office in the historic Schiffman Building across from the Madison County Courthouse in Huntsville. Another cousin, actress Tallulah Bankhead, helped bring attention to anti-lynching legislation with the support of President Harry Truman. Law is deeply rooted in her family’s heritage, with many relatives serving as lawyers and judges.

"Paula Lampkin is a soldier of justice who fights for your constitutional rights and due process. She gives a voice to the accused who have no voice and works tirelessly to ensure that no individual is deprived of their constitutional rights."

Education

Attorney Lampkin earned a double major in Economics and Finance and studied under Dr. David P. Lewis, Chairman of the Economics Department at UAB. Although she has a strong academic background in mathematics and statistics, her passion for justice led her to pursue law.

Employment

Much of her life’s work has included researching the Leo Frank case. The injustice surrounding that case inspired her path toward criminal defense. She trained under her uncle, Judge J. Russell McElroy, and her former law partner, Powell Lipscomb (Hudson Powell Lipscomb III). During her career as a criminal defense attorney, she has lost only two jury trials—both occurring when defendants chose to testify.

While serving as an Elder Law attorney in Alabama’s Black Belt region, based in Selma, she was recognized among the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Southern Alabama. She has also been named among the Top 100 Criminal Defense Attorneys.

Attorney Lampkin continues to research the Leo Frank case in Marietta, Georgia, as well as the murders of Father James Coyle in Birmingham, Alabama, and Emmett Till in Mississippi—cases that represent profound miscarriages of justice.
